Phase VI – Scanning & Gridding
Scanning and image analysis are critical steps in
the microarray process to assure that high quality raw data
is retrieved. In general, photon energy from emitted fluorescent
light is converted into electrical energy, thus producing
a measurable signal that is proportional to the number of
photons detected. These analog signals are then converted
into digital signals representing relative transcript intensity
levels. Data is then extracted using QuantArray software (GSI
Lumonics). Quality control steps are incorporated to ensure
overall quality for each array image.
